PlayStation VR 2 Adding PC Games Support In 2024

As part of a PlayStation Blog post ostensibly centered around the announcement of new PlayStation VR2 games, Sony has quietly revealed much bigger news: It plans to add PC compatibility to the VR headset later this year.

“We’re pleased to share that we are currently testing the ability for PSVR 2 players to access additional games on PC to offer even more game variety in addition to the PSVR 2 titles available through PS5,” Sony said in a blog update. “We hope to make this support available in 2024, so stay tuned for more updates.”

Sony launched PSVR 2 in February 2023, and while the headset does have some impressive tech specs when compared to competitors like the Quest 3, the main drawback of this unit is that it needs to be tethered to a PS5 to function and its library has grown at a very slow pace. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s head of global business, Eric Lempel, previously called the VR space a “challenging” category for the company.

While Lempel explained that PSVR 2 sales were “going well,” he also mentioned that Sony expected more from the VR gaming market. “I think there was a higher expectation generally for what VR would do to gaming,” Lempel said to the Financial Times last year.

Meanwhile, PSVR 2 owners can look forward to several new games and updates soon. Action-adventure spellcasting game The Wizards – Dark Times: Brotherhood and free DLC for Arizona Sunshine 2 are now available, and will be followed by cozy diorama city-building, undead fun in World War 2, and a JRPG adventure later this year.
