Game preservation–or the lack thereof–has been a common discussion among those in the gaming industry for quite some time. Another game is soon to be lost to the ether, as Platinum Games has announced its Apple Arcade exclusive action game, World Of Demons, will effectively cease to exist in a month’s time.
A four-sentence post appeared on the studio’s official blog today, which confirmed the game’s removal from the Apple Arcade service on January 18. The blog also confirms that two weeks later, on February 1, the game will cease all functionality even for those who were able to download before its removal.
As Apple Arcade is the only platform World Of Demons currently exists on, this means the game will no longer exist on February 1, unless Platinum decides to release it on another console. Platinum does pay some gratitude to those who play the game before its removal, with the blog post saying the developers “extend our gratitude to all players who have enjoyed the game since release.”
The two-week grace period between removal and full shutdown is in line with Apple Arcade policy, which states that if “you download a game before it leaves Arcade, you can play the game for at least two weeks after. If you try to launch an Arcade game that is no longer playable, you receive a No Longer Available message.”
GameSpot’s 7/10 review of World Of Demons in 2021 called it a “solid action experience,” as the “Platinum formula translates well to iOS devices, with simple touch controls and quick action that looks and feels great on the smaller screen.”
